The book is covered in full black cape morocco with a raised coffin lid on the front cover and a coffin bottom inset into back cover. The lid of the coffin has a built-in sound mechanism which creaks when rotated open, revealing a gilded skeleton of iridescent white box calf; the eyes are inset with rubies. The eye of the snake made of buprestid insect wing. All edges gilded; titled in gold, black calf doublures, grey suede fly leaves.
