Bound:

1992

The book is bound in full dark blue cape morocco, with a "floating" cloud pattern cut into boards. The clouds are tooled onto front and back covers with mosaics of cape morocco, box calf, and oasis leathers. The flyleaves are made of Japanese silk especially created for mounting scrolls of the Ukiyo-e period. Open areas between the clouds permit the silk flyleaves to be seen through the covers. The top edge is gilded and the book is titled in gold on the spine. Placed in a chemise and slipcase.

This binding won the international competition for the Leah Wollenberg Prize for Excellence in Hand Bookbinding, March 1992, Stanford University Libraries.
