A DESERT TALE

Sunflower Press, Mill Valley, California,1993

Dimensions:

Miniature format: 3 3/8 "x 2 3/4".

Bound:

2005

The book is bound in full tan Oasis goat skin with the back cover hinged to extend out and around book, creating a clasp in the form of a three dimensional camel's head. The camel's head, with bridle and tassels, magnetically attaches to the front board. (The magnets are embedded into the cover and head).

As the book is opened, the camel's body is seen to extend onto both the inside and the outside of the back cover, allowing the camel to appear as if walking out of the book. The camel is tooled in gold with mosaics of chagrin, cape morocco and Oasis leathers of orange, yellow, purple and green. The doublures are silk and the flyleaves are yellow suede. The top edge is gilded. The book is protected by a fitted clam shell box with a tan leather spine and marbled paper sides. The book and box are titled in gold. Illustrated by Marcie Collin.
