YOU CAN JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER

Bernard Middleton. Illustrated by John De Pol. Bird and Bull Press, 1995

Dimensions:

Miniature format: 2 1/2"x3 1/4"

Bound:

1996

The book is covered in red cape morocco with gold and blind tooled onlays of chagrin, cape morocco, Oasis and box calf leathers. The design, inspired by the miniature format of the book, the text, and the proverbial title, is a rebus and a double entendre of the title and author. The design was accomplished with very small filet tools [made for this project] with the exception of the three dimensional "can", which was made by combining various miniature can parts. Doublures, tooled with gold, and fly leaves are marbled paper. The top edge is mottled gold . Clam shell style box of leather and paper.
